Project HEAL (Help to Eat, Accept and Live) is a nonprofit organization that helps people suffering with eating disorders pay for treatment. The organization was founded in 2008 by Liana Rosenman and Kristina Saffran, who had met while undergoing treatment for anorexia nervosa. Project HEAL's grants help to cover inpatient, residential, outpatient, and intensive outpatient treatments. Recipients can apply for treatment grants through the organization's website.
According to Project HEAL, one month of full residential treatment for a patient with an eating disorder costs $30,000. Because of inadequate insurance coverage, the organization estimates that only 10 percent of Americans suffering from such disorders get treatment.
In honor of their work, Rosenman and Saffran were named to the 2017 Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneurs list. Also in 2017, the organization partnered with the producers of To The Bone, a film about anorexia that was released worldwide on Netflix in July 2017.
